A Silvereye stops mid-branch and locks eyes with you — head tilted, completely unintimidated, reading the situation with the unhurried confidence of a bird that knows exactly where it belongs.
This was taken in the Gisborne Botanic Gardens, Victoria, among the dense drooping canopy of a large tree heavy with purple seed pods. The Silvereyes were working it methodically — in and out of the branches, impossibly quick — and this one paused just long enough to look back.
The image is sharp to the feather, the violet tones of the seed pods dissolving into a clean, layered bokeh behind the bird. The result is vivid but composed — colour and detail in balance.
